About Us

The vision of The Jethsuby Scholorship Fund of The Catholic Foundation is to transform a community where only half of Latino children graduate from high school to one where financial obstacles do not impede Latino children from receiving a high-quality and holistic education.

Facts About Latino Children

  • Hispanic students are less likely to attend preschool and more likely to attend low-performing public primary and secondary schools.
  • Almost 40% of Hispanics did not have any college experience in 2015.
  • Only 17% of Hispanics have a bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Of 83% of Hispanic students who took the ACT test and planned to attend college, nearly half were not considered college-ready.
  • 17.4% of students attending Catholic schools in the U.S. are Hispanic/Latino.
  • There are more than 1.3 million Catholics in the Diocese of Dallas. The Latino population is the fastest growing within the Catholic community.

Our mission is to help these kids achieve their dreams and become the next generation of leaders.

History

Dr. and Mrs. Mauricio Delgado established The Jethsuby Scholarship Fund at The Catholic Foundation in December 2009 to provide Hispanic students a solid foundation for their lives through a Catholic education.

The fund was named after a very smart, positive and happy child named Jethsuby, the son of Mexican immigrants and one of Dr. Delgado’s patients. Jethsuby died unexpectedly at the young age of 11.

Recognizing that there are many Hispanic children who can benefit from attending a Catholic school, the Fund was founded to give these children the opportunity to fulfill their own potential in Jethsuby's memory.

Jethsuby

Through the years, we have grown this effort in terms of reach, governance and collaboration. A governing board for the fund began leading efforts in 2012. The people who come forward to lead, support and donate to The Jethsuby Fund have been amazing, and we are very grateful.

Leadership

The Delgados established The Jethsuby Scholarship Fund of The Catholic Foundation in 2009, with big dreams to help Latino kids in a big way. Incredible community leaders have stepped up to move this effort forward as part of a board of directors.
